Travellers may sometime require a tourist visa when visiting a foreign country. This is the case when the destination country does not have a visa policy in place with the home country of the traveller. Although there are some countries, like USA and Canada, where the residents do not require a visa for travelling back and forth between the countries, thanks to visa policies and other agreements. Permanent residency refers to an individual’s residency status in a country of which they are not a citizen. This type of residency, however, is different from right of abode, which removes immigration control for such applicants. Apparently not all countries allow permanent residency, as it depends majorly on the policies and agreements between the home country and destination country of the individual.
